Show TERRIBLE DISASTER AYERTED. A Four-Ten Bon-lder Come Lonne and riunften Down n Steep Mountain Onto a Railway Track. Our Collins ton correspondent writes us particulars of an accident that occurred to the R. R. track in Bear River gorge, which might have resulted in the loss of a hundred lives or more. It seems that the recent heavy rain-storms are loosening considerable consider-able rock on the mountain, causing it to slide down the steep slope into the canal on one fide, or across the railway track on the other. But about noon Wednesday the Jumbo slide occurred. A huge conglomeration con-glomeration of rock weighing about S.000 pounds broke away from the stupendous crags, which tower hundreds of feet into the sky above the west mouth of the gorge, and came thundering down the precipitous heights. It plunged into the high wooden trc?tle, eflect-ually eflect-ually tearing out and uprooting the numerous supports and heavy ; piles that stood in its v. ay, knocking knock-ing them into a million pieces. It then gave one long leap, completely burving itself in the r.fi?y river below. The faithful watchman aw the extraordinary occurrence and sensing sens-ing the impending d-inger, sped d..wn the trad: L flag and warn j the approaching train. This was dooc successfully.
