Patter-day Saints should listen to the teachings of the servants of Clod and you will be greatly blessed as a people. Believed the Saints of God had a right to load and guide this people in temporal and spiritual things. Pot us be careful that we are not lyd astray by the work of the adversary. ad-versary. PuKstoKXTCr.AwsoN said the Saints have congregated together this day and unless the speakers are led and guided by the spirit of Clod it is impossible for them to speak of such things that are most suitable, for the occasion and for the Saints, at tho present time. Referred to the feeling manifested at the laying of the capstone of the Salt Lake Temple, also to the opportunity the Saints now have of helping to complete that grand building' Spoke of the importance of paying tithing, which should be paid when due. Clawson made a peculiar statement in his discourse, ycsjenhiy. 1 le said he did not think the Lord was well pleased with the people of Brighani City. If that be the case, each individual should examine ! himself and ascertain if he is one of the number with whom the Lord is displeased. If a brother finds that he is not in harmony with those who preside over him, he has just cause for believing that the Lord is not pleased with him. Spoke of tho harmony existing between the Stake Presidency, the High Council and the Bishops. Was aware of the fact that a spirit of strife .and disunion existed among the people of Brighani City and felt impressed to lift a warning warn-ing voice against it. There are two or three brethren mostly responsible re-sponsible for this state of things. If they do not repent, and also those who have given aid to this influence, the displeasure of the Lord will kill upon them and apostasy will result. It is a shame and a disgrace to Brighani City that such opposition and contention conten-tion should exist. Spoke of an organization that had sprung up here for the purpose of agitation tne stake snouia set gooa examples to the people. If we expect the Lord to continue to bless us, we must do His will and keep His commandments. com-mandments. E sorted the people to observe Fast Day with prayer and donations. If we do not forget the Lord, He will not forget us. Don't be alarmed if you are called upon for donations for the building up of the Kingdom of Clod. He will bless us; and the more sacrifice we make for that purpose the better we will be off. This people have paid a great many donations, but they were never in better condition condi-tion than they are today. We. are here to build up the Kingdom of God, both temporal and spiritual, as the two can not be separated. ! We were taught in last Conference that the authorities in this Church have a right to lead and direct in all things. Spoke of the importance impor-tance of unity; it is a serious thing to stir up strife among the people of tiod. Men that do so will apostatize; for such is not according to the mind and will of God. The choir sang an anthem. ! Benediction, by Bishop Allen Ihmsaker. j SUNDAY AFTKIINOON. j Services began by the congroga- and fighting the City Council, and denounced it in unmeasured terms. It is unworthy of support and should be abandoned. The brethren breth-ren should repent of these things, return to the Lord and be one. Singing. Benediction, by Bishop Thos. Harper. MONDAY AFTERNOON. Pres. Clawson called the congregation congre-gation to order. Singing, by tho choir. Prayer, by Bishop J. C. Dewey. Singing. Pres. Clawson read a letter from the First Presidency, setting apart May 1st, 1S92. as a day of fasting, prayer and thanksgiving to the Lord for his bountiful blepsingsand deliverance. In connection with the observance of the day, the Saints were invited lo contribute liberally of their means for the completion of the Salt Lake Temple. Elder B. II. Roiiekts delivered a powerful sermon on the subject of union, depicting the great evils growing out of strife, contention and division among the Saints. We were not brought into these mountain vales to seek riches, but to serve the Lord; not to do our own will, but the will of tho Lord. The choir sang an anthem. Patriarch Samuel Smith said it was fifty years since Brother Snow led him to the waters of baptism. Had ever since been acquainted with the leaders of the Church J and had learned to love and respect re-spect the priesthood of God and those who presided over him. Spoke of the great necessity of being united. Klder Wm. L. Watkins spoke briefly regarding the importance of learning and Ooing the will of God. Elder Craxdall Dunn bore his testimony that what had been said that day was the truth from high heaven and it has been given for our interest and our good. Counsellor Chas. Kelly always felt to sustain tho priesthood and those who arc set to preside over us. Let us remember that God is at the helm of the good ship Zion and he rules through his servants who hold the priesthood. Singing, by the choir. Benediction, Bene-diction, by Bishop P. C. Jensen. Conference adjourned for three months. AT THE TABERNACLE. Box Elder Stake Quarterly Quarter-ly Conference Sunday and Monday. STRIFE AND DIVISION CONDEMNED Strong References Made to the Present Local Situation by Many of our Most Prominent Men. The Box Elder Stake Quarterly Conference was held in the Brigham Brig-ham City Tabernacle last Sunday and Monday. Although the Tabernacle Taber-nacle was well-filled at each of the four meetings held, Sunday afternoon after-noon many people were turned away, unable to gain admittance, the attendance was a little below that of the preceding Conference. The damp, stormy weather no doubt kept scores of people away. The numerous carts, buggies, wagons and carriages about Tabernacle Taber-nacle square, betokened generous attendance from the outside settlements, settle-ments, far and near. Hereafter, a warm, comfortable room, with luncheon and conveniences for those who bring their lunches, will be provided in the vestry for these visiting friends, which will likely go far toward swelling their numbers num-bers in the future. Among those seen on the stand weie, Lorenzo Snow. President of the Twelve Apostles; Kudger Clawson, President of Box Klder Stake; his Counsellor, Chas. Kelly; Elder B. H. Roberts of Salt Lake; Patriarch Samuel Smith; Elders W. L. Watkins, P. F. Madson. X. P. Anderson, Chas. Wight, J. C. Wixom, .1. Jeppsson, Jacob Jensen, Crandal Dunn. Allen Ilunsaker, tion singing the hymn commencing: commenc-ing: "We thank thee, O God, for a Prophet." The opening prayer was offered by Elder John Nye. Choir sang: "How dark and gloomy was Ihe nighl." The sacrament was administered by the Priesthood of the First ward. Pres. Clawson presented the general gen-eral and local authorities of the Church, all of whom weresustained. Singing, by tho choir. Elder B. II. Roberts said, I know of no two things among the Latter-day Saints that are of greater importance than partaking of the sacrament and voting to sustain sus-tain the authorities of the Church. If the Saints should do nothing but these two things, their meeting together to-gether would be of great importance, if attended to in the spirit of the Gospel. The partaking of the sacrament sac-rament is a witness to all men, angels and to God of our gratitude to Him for the great atonement that Jesus wrought out for us. The Saints should not attend to this ordinance as a mere formality. Voting to sustain the oflicers of the Church is also of great importance. It looks to be a matter of form. The world think this so, and that the oflicers would continue to act. whether they were sustained by the peopl e or n ot . A ccord i 11 g to Church doctrines, everything must be done by the common consent of the Church. There is not an oftteer in the Church who can stand one moment without being sustained by the people. The Lord also asserts the right of his priesthood. When oflicers are appointed by the people their word must he accepted by them and then the gates of hell shall not prevail against you. On the day the Church was organized, there were the two great principles: the voice of tiod and the voice of the people. After sustaining the oflicers, then comes the obligation of accepting their instructions, for |
