Show FARMERS HAVE BENEFITTED GREATLY DURING YEAR Now that the time is approaching when the farmers of the country coun-try will begin to take stock of agricultural conditions, to see in what way if any, they have benefitted during the year 1925, the Department Depart-ment of Agriculture is sounding a distinctly encouraging note. The price adjustments of the summer have placed the purchasing purchas-ing power of the farmer .at ninety-one as compared with a pre-war purchasing power of 1 00. This is a distinct improvement over the past few years and shows that the agricultural dollar is rapidly getting back to normalcy and restoring its own balance. The report of the department says that in the east farm conditions condi-tions are slightly improved over 1924 and the potato and vegetable growers are in better spirits than they were a year ago. In the South, it is stated that cotton has done well except for drought in certain localities and the promise is for a large yield and a good income. A considerable exodus of laborers is reported from certain sections of the South. In the corn belt it is said that a good crop is in prospect, and there will be a general feeding of livestock during the winter, as the prices of cattle and hogs are distinctly encouraging. The wheat region is declared to be fairly optomistic except in certain regions in the Southwest where the crop failed and in the range country the ranges are said to' be good and the stock in fine shape. |
