Show -J BAND CONTESTS I AT STATE FAIR 1 s What is perhaps the greatest series of band contests ever held in the state will be one of the many big features of the Utah State Fair, October 1 to 7, to be conducted during the first four days of the Fair. There will . be in addition, cornet and saxophone solo i contests. Valuable prizes are being offered j all winners. ; Participants in the band contests will enter ti in one of two classes, semi-professional or i amateur. Prizes to be awarded in the semi- j professional class will be as follows: First, ' I2S0 cash and a $100 gold loving cup. Sec-ond, Sec-ond, $100 cash and a musical instrument to ( be decided upon. Third, $50 cash and a fin baton. . . ,, In the amateur class, the following prizes will be awarded winning bands: First, $100 cash and a $75 gold loving cup. Second, $75 cash and a $115 Holton trombone. Third $50 cash and a bass drum. I A gold comet will be awarded the winner , I of the cornet solo contest. The saxophone , iolo contest winner will be given a gold- . trimmed saxophone. , . The contest number for semi-professional , bands will be "Poet and Peasant," and one other piece to be selected by the band. The amateur bands will play "Songs of the Old Folks," by Lake, and one other piece to be selected by them. Cornet and saxophone soloists will each play one piece selected by themselves and will be judged on technique, tone and phrasing. Bands or soloists wishing to enter should mail applications to the office of the Utall State Fair association, State Capitol. . |
