Show Pea Canning Factory Practically Assured That the Gunnison Valley will add another important industry to its already al-ready growing businesses, in the way of a pea canning factory was practically assured this week when isportant meetings bearing on the factory were held at both Center-field Center-field and Gunnison. At the meeting at Centerfield held Tuesday evening and at which representative farmers from both Gunnison and Ceuterfield,, Mayfield, Axtell, Westview, Clarion and Fayette were present, tentative plans were mapped out for the erection erec-tion of a plant in the valley that will cost in the neighborhood of $100,-000. $100,-000. More than the usual enthusiasm was manifest at both the Gunnison and Centerfield meetings and when the proposition had been thoroughly explained and a list started for subscriptions sub-scriptions the major portion of those present subscribed tor interest in the proposed factory. Chris. A. Peterson presided at the Centerfield meeting and introduced Benj. Brown who outlined the plan. Mr. Brown spoke at length on the possibilities of a factory in the valley and impressed upon the farmers the good that would be derived. He stated that not only would a revenue be. derived from the main product. but that the bi-products, known to every farmer as one of the best dairy stock feeds, and the beneficient results re-sults obtained in the soil from pea culture. Walter Green, of the Green Machinery Mach-inery & Manufacturing company of Salt Lake, also addressed the farmers farm-ers at the Centerfield meeting. Mr. Green stated that conditions, so far as he had studied them, convinced him that the valley could support easily a factory capable of turning out 30,000 cases of peas annually or the product from approximately 400 acres. A plant of this capacity could easilly be expanded and as the industry indus-try grew the plant could be enlarged to meet the demands. A goodly acreage was subscribed for at both the meetings and the members of the committee appointed to solicit stock subscriptions report, splendid progress. The stock soliciting committee consists con-sists of. Chris. A. Peterson, Chris. Sorenson, Edward Bunderson, Joseph Jo-seph Christenseu, A. M. Mellor, A. H. Lund and William Nielson. A meeting of this special committee commit-tee will be held at the City Hall in Gunnison this evening at which time more definite plans will be made towards to-wards a permanent organization and a plan of incorporating. |
