Show Stricken Widow Is Given Aid Gunnison citizens, responsive to the needs of those stricken and in times of distress and sorrow, made no exceptions when they learned of the sad plight that had befallen Mrs. Delia Rudy, a former Gunnison girl, in the loss of her two sons in the flood that swept through Farmington canyon last week, and yesterday a substantial purse, consisting of 129.-85, 129.-85, was forwarded to Mrs. Rudy at her home in Salt Lake City. The money was collected by former friends of Mrs. Rudy and the givers willingly gave for the good cause. Mrs. Rudy, formerly Miss Delia Newreen, was a native of this city and resided here for many years. When she was married she -went to Salt Lake and some years ago Mr. Rudy died. With several children to take care of, the widowed woman was forced to go out and work in order to provide for and educate her children. The two boys, Teddy and Vernon Rudy, boy scouts and who were enjoying an outing in the canyon, can-yon, were swept down with the force of the flood and - drowned. Their bodies were later ,-ecovered. The boys were aged 13 and 15 and were just reaching the point where they would have been an aid and help to their mother. When the true story of the said condition of the mother was made known here, subscription papers were started and it required only but a brief time to gather the magnificient fund that was forwarded to Mrs. Rudy yesterday. |
