Show ! BILL DONOVAN AIMS TO GIVE BUGS BETTER BRAND OF BALL A- I ' A - , C . yyi I Vv 4 , Qufikerlown has been silting in on cellar baseball for several seasons'. The 1'hils have gradually declined from pennant winner under I'at Moran to the bottom of the ladder. Wild ltill Donovan, former boss of the old New York Highlanders, will try bis hand with the destinies of the National league club this season, and the fans are looking to him lo get them some kind of a winner. Quakertown isn't crazy for a pennant. The bugs just want something in baseball, not the worst. "I'm not making any promises or predictions, but I do think that I can mold something out of the material at band that will not run last," Donovan said. "The club needs strengthening in several departments. I would like to hnve some young blood r?hind the bat and a good peppery infielder. But any one who follows baseball knows that wanting players and getting them are two very different things. "The trade we made with the Cincinnati Ileds strengthened our club, even if it is claimed we got the worst of it. Ilixey was a good pitcher, there is no doubt of that, but I think Jimmy Ring can win just as many games. Neale is a good ball player and will adtl strength to our outfield." |
