Show Gen. Richard W. Young's Estimate of Charles R. Mabey's valor. Here's the story told by Brig. Gen. Young of the brovery of Charles R. Maybey while in action in the Spanish American War: "While patrol-ing patrol-ing the Passiac River on an armored river boat, an ambush attack was made on the boat by the Insurrectos. The attack was so sudden that the shock forced the crew on deck to go below. Mabey was found alone on deck firing from behind a bale of hay; from this point, he fired so rapidly that his gun became over-heated and lost its shape, and it was necessary for him to crawl over the deck and go below and get another-gun another-gun and resume his firing." The story told by General Young was a wonderful won-derful inspiration to the officers and men. |
