The water in the ditch on Washington Wash-ington Ave., when about one inch from the top of the fatal sand bank, broke out, Friday, with a rush and ' roar, excavating a piece about four feet wide. The only person receiving receiv-ing the full benefit of the washout was H. II. Smith, whoso garden lay just opposite. Mr. S., after viewing the spot where his garden ought to be, but which now had terminated into a young lake from which surface nothing -could be accn but cabbages trying to keep their heads above water by treading, tread-ing, was beard to remark: that if he had set out water lilies instead of carrots it would have been more appropriate. The next thing on the docket is, to haul dirt (not sand) and fill up this large excavation; excava-tion; in fact, the whole of this bank along this place, and Fifth street, also, should be made higher. Wo think with this finishing touch it will make the ditch perfectedLets per-fectedLets get at it! A large store-house is being built in the rear of the Rnach buihling. 1 A couple of Corinne's young men made a trip out to ISellt!'i"w, Sunday, Sun-day, and participated in a swim.
