Show Legionnairs Will Initiate "Goofs" La Societe des Quarante Homines et Huit Cheveaux will stage a big demonstration for legionaires from all over the state during the Fourth Annual An-nual convention of the American Legion an,d the American Legion Auxiliary at Logan September 21, 22 and 23. It is expected that over one hundred members will be initiated at that time. During the big parade the first day of the convention the 40 and 8'ers will appear in full regalia riding in thier "state carriages" The French box cars. The "poor goofs," as candidates can-didates for membership are called, will furnish the amusement in the parade giving a correct demonstration demonstra-tion as to how to run a French raiU road train. On Friday evening the big initiation ceremony will be held and it is expected that there will be a big crowd to watch the candidates' initiation into the mysteries of the great box car society. Voiture Locale No. 286 will conduct the ceremonies cere-monies and according to L. Boyd Hatch, Chef de Gare the candidates will be returned to their home posts in fine shape "reasonable wear and tear excepted." La Societe des Quarante Homines et Chaveaux was first organized in 1919 at Philadelphia as a local proposition prop-osition but it scon became so popular pop-ular that within a few months it had become a national scope. It is the playground of the American Legion and was officially recognized as such during the third annual convention at Kansas City in 1921. There are two voitures in Utah located at Salt Lake City and Logan. Voitures are in the process of organization at Price, Cedar City and Ogden. It is expected that a grand or state voiture voi-ture will be organized at the time of the Legion Convention this year. |
