Show EXCULPATES MARINES IN HAITI i Naval Court Says Men Did Dangerous Duty With Great Credit. Washington. The naval court of Inquiry which investigated the conduct con-duct of the marines in Haiti reported t Secretary Daniels on December IS that there "had been no proper grounds" for the statement by Briga-I Briga-I dier General George Barnett, former commandant of the marine corps, that the force had been guilty of practically indiscriminate killing of Haitians. After a careful survey, the court, presided over by Rear Admiral Henry T. Mayo, found General Burnett's charges were "ill considered, regret-able regret-able and thoroughly unwarranted reflections" re-flections" on the work' of the marine corps in Haiti, adding that the corps had performed difficult, dangerous and delicate duty worthy of the highest commendation. |
