Show Christmas Money For Beet Growers Approximately $300,000 in chocks were distributed by the Gunnison Valley Sugar company to the farmers and beet growers of the valley Thursday Thurs-day of last. week. The checks just sent out are for the November ueei deliveries and, coming as the checks do, just on the eve of Christmas, has frightened practically every home in (he big valley. The payment just made by the sugar company is the final settlement for beets this season and makes a total of nearly $700,-000 $700,-000 paid by the company lor ueets alone. The beet checks, together with the wages and funds expended for improvements, will total over $1,000,000 for the year. "Conditions at the factory," said .Superintendent G. G. Light, "are the very best and the plant is working splendidly in all departments. Tht record run for the season and for a period of twelve hours was made last Monday night when '297 tons of beets were sliced and only for a little mishap mis-hap GOO tons would have been sliced in the twenty-four hours that day. A steady average is being maintained, main-tained, however, and we expect to be busy until the first of February before the immense tonnage produced pro-duced in the valley is converted into sugar. The warehouse is filled !o capacity, ca-pacity, there being some 80.000 bags of sugar stored. An initial shipment was made last week. The shipment consigned to the Wm. Wrigley, Jr., company at Chicago, where it will be used in the manufacture of chewing chew-ing gum, this company being the largest gum manufacturer in the world." It is announced that within the next week or ten days reguUtr shipments ship-ments will start from the factory. All the sugar will go to the Wrigley company at Chicago. |
