Show Oil Wells Sunk in Bed of Ocean. Many persons would doubt the statement state-ment that it is possible to pump oil from the earth beneath the waters of the ocean. That this is done, however, how-ever, is proved. The well towers are located on rough frame piers over the ocean and as far as a hundred feet from the surf. The oil is pumped through the waters of the sea and Is carried through pipes to the land, where it is emptied into tanks. The pumps are worked by means of steam engines stationed on the piers. A few years ago there were many more of these wells, but some have been exhausted ex-hausted and abandoned in recent years. Popular Science Monthly and World's Advance. |
