Show Farmers Urged to Assist Big Industry "The Gunnison Valley Sugar company com-pany has given us a sugar factory, one of the greatest industries that could have come to the valley, and through jt our land values have increased in-creased better than thirty-five' per cent, so it is up to the farmers here to lend every support possible to the factory by planting every acre possi-, possi-, ble to sugar beets." Thus spoke a prominent farmer to a News man yesterday. "We have urged the establishing of a factory here," continued the spokesman, "and through our promises prom-ises nearly a million dollars has been spent in the erection of one of the --- best sugar factories in the state. While it must be admitted beet growing grow-ing to -many of the farmers of the valley is comparatively new, but none of us can gain'better knowledge than that by practical experience, and a small patch of the beets the coming year will be the means of impressing how easily it is and how handsomely the returns will bo. "The stil throughout Gunnison Valley is ideally adapted to beet growing and with care and judgment in planting and cultivating the returns re-turns will show a decided increase over the raising of other crops. A study, of conditions in the adjoining counties and throughout the state where the raising of beets is being followed on a large scale, shows that the farmer is building a fat bank account, ac-count, drives automobiles, has a fine home and the community surrounding surround-ing is thoroughly prosperous. The same conditions can easily exist hero and if the farmers in this valley will follow the example of their neighbors, neigh-bors, the same thriving conditions will exist in our own communities. Let us all get together and adopt the slogan, 'More Beets For Our Own Sugar Factory.' " |
