Show New War Tax On Parcel-ost Packages Postmaster General Burleson has issued an order relating to the tax on parcel post. This parcel-post tax is effective on and after December 1, 1917. Parcel-post packages must have internal in-ternal revenue stamps affixed by the sender in addition to the lawful postage pos-tage as follows: One-cent revenue stamp for each package subject to 25 cents in postage (no tax under 25 cents), 2-cent revenue reve-nue stamp for each package subject to postage from 26 to 50 cents, and so on. Regular postage stamps will not be valid for this payment. Special Spe-cial internal revenue stamps will be furnished. The internal revenue stamps affixed to parcels in payment of the tux must be cancelled by the sender placing, or causing to be placed, theron his written writ-ten or stamped initials together with the date upon which the stamps are attached or used. In no case however should the bender cancel postage stamps affixed to parcels: such stamps must be cancelled only by postal em-ploeees. |
