Judge David Davis, one of the ablest lawyers in Illinois, during his lifetime, lias the following to say, through the columns of ouo of our exchanges, of the local paper: "Each year the local paper gives from o00 to ftBOO in free lines for the benetit of the community in which it is located. No other agency can or will do this. The editor, in proportion to his means, does more for his town than any ten men, and in all fairness, man with man. he ought to be supported, support-ed, not because you happen to like him or admire his writing, but because be-cause a local paper is the best investment in-vestment a community can make. ''It may not hi; brilliantor crowded crowd-ed with more thoughts, but financially finan-cially it is of more benefit to a community than a teacher or preacher. Understand us now, we do not mean morally or intellectually, intel-lectually, but financially; and yet! on the moral ijuestiou you will find that most of the local papers are on the right side of the question. Today, the editors of the local papers do the most work for the least money of any man on earth. "Subscribe lor your local paper, not as a charity, but as an investment." |
