The gulls, in flocks, keep close behind the plow to catch the worms as fast as they are thrown up on the loamy soil. The sea gull is a clean, sleek bird, about the shape of a pigeon, but three or four times as large. Their color is white, drab and black, the former color predominating. They are held in great respect in this Territory and a Territorial law provides a fine for slaying these birds, because of their miraculous acts in devouring devour-ing the myriads of ravenous grasshoppers grass-hoppers that threatened the crops of the early pioneers.
