After several conferences confer-ences with the president and state department de-partment officials, Senator V. 11. King of Utah Saturday stated that the Mexican Mex-ican situation is going to be dealt with ill a manner that will fully protect t he rights of Americans, both as to their lives and their property. Exactly what the new policy of the administration is to be, Senator King was not at liberty to disclose, but the inference was drawn from his remarks that as soon as the (German treaty is ratified, or possibly sooner, strong demands will be made upon Carranza to guarantee guar-antee full protection to Americans eieo where in Mexico, the demand to cover also American property rights; in that country. If a satisfactory assurance followed by satisfactory performance is not promptly forthcoming, it would seem to be the purpose of the administration to resort to military means of persuading per-suading Carranza that American rights can no longer be disregarded in his country. What form of military move would be resorted to in such event, is apparently appar-ently not yet fully determined. The state department is working on its reply to Senator King's resolution calling for full information regarding past depredations against Americans and American property in Mexico, the report being delayed, it is explained, by the mass of data that is being assembled. assem-bled. The foreign relations committee is standing back of Senator King in his effort to get a full statement of Mexican Mex-ican outrages against Americans, with a view to bringing about a speedy and fair settlement of all American claims against the Mexican government. |
