Show LOCAL ECHOES. W. Winters of the Western Newspaper News-paper Union force, Salt Lake City, enjoyed a vacation of several days with friends in Gunnison, guest of Anthony Madsen, returning Tuesday. The county commissioners of this and Sevier county are making protest against the raise in assessed valuation recently announced by the state board of equalization. J. W. Edwards is contemplating an addition of twenty-seven rooms to his hotel and otherwise improving the premises more up-to-date in conveniences. con-veniences. H. A. Kearns and L. H. Erickson have purchased the interests held by Messrs. Carroll and Bartholomew in the Gunnison Co-op. A controlling Interest in the institution is retained by J. W. Edwards & Son, it is stated. Mr. and Mr s.E. L. Swalberg spent a pleasant outing in the mountains, returning last week with much praise for the Emery-Sanpete meet held on the Twelve-mile flat. The Self Culture club met Wednesday Wednes-day afternoon at the home of Mrs W. J Gribble, who entertained with a superb luncheon following the regular regu-lar program. The members present, besides sewing listened to a timely reading given by Mrs. George Halver-son Halver-son and selected jokes supplied by Mrs. Ray B. Metcalf. The Gunnison orchestra, its members mem-bers consisting of George S. Francis, Leo N. Gledhill, Clarence E. Halver-Bon,'Sofus Halver-Bon,'Sofus Christensen, Harold Hal-verson, Hal-verson, and Miss Carrie Tollestrup, succeeded in getting a nice testimonial testimoni-al for Miss Evelyn Fjeldsted by means of a dance in her behalf given Tuesday Tues-day evening, netting the sum of $39.40. This amount was handed to Miss Fjeldsted in the form of a check from the Gunnison orchestra yesterday. yester-day. Weil, that's a kindly act and will redound to their honor. C. W. Perkins, William Bardsley, F. Ludvigspn and W. H. Gribble left Wednesday to attend the Black Hawk reunion at Moroni. It goes without saying that these veterans of the Indian In-dian times in this section would enjoy en-joy immensely the opportunity of meeting their comrades of the sixties. The three days reunion at Moroni was scheduled to close last night. Mrs. Alice M. Pierce was tendered a complimentary social at her home last Thursday evening by the officers of the Primary association, which she had presided over but recently retired re-tired from that office owing to poor health. Picnic and a pleaaant time 'was enjoyed. By the occasion Mrs. Pierce was reassured that appreciation apprecia-tion was felt of her labors in behalf of the Primary cause. |
