A peculiar accident befell the little lit-tle sevpiiteen-montbs-old babe of James Bowcutt, of Coilinston, this week. Near the house, about which the infant was playing, stood the remains of a beer bottle, the top having been broken off, leaving a sharp prong pointing upwards. As the babe approached the bottle she accidentally stumbled and fell upon the sharp projection. The keen edge penetrated the infant's clothing cloth-ing and cut a frightful gash in the I region of the rectum. Dr. Wade placed eight stitches in the long, deep wound and the babe is doing well, yet the cut is a dangerous one.
