Last Saturday night .the people flocked en ma asp. to the Factory Hall, bent on hearing Democracy discussed. The house was fairly ! jammed. There were about 800 ' people present; hundreds were , standing. . Besides the visitors, there were seen on tlic stand, A. IT. Snow. R. II. Jones, P. F. Madsen, R. II. Baty Nels Jenson. J. R. Smurthwaite and George R. Chase. Our old Democratic war-horse. R. II. Baty, was chosen chairman. Hon. C. C. Richards arose and I in a clear and consecutive order ; traced the two national parties from their origin to the present time, not omitting mention of notable not-able events in their widely different differ-ent histories. ! Hon. F. S. Richards dealt with j the tariff' question and explained ! how tariff raises the price of woolen and leather goods, glassware, crock-I crock-I ery, tinware, etc. He showed how ' it enriched the monopolist, but I robbed the poor. The orator spoke ; with such telling effect that one ' Republican renounced his old ; love right tlicTe and then and aft-j aft-j er the meeting joined the ranks of I t lie IVmocrats. Some 15 or 20 al-! al-! lied themselves with the new or-j or-j ga nidation at the close of the meeting. |
