Show Gunnison Gossip By O.- Nemo.: Now is the time a good garden will supply one half of the living expenses of a family. Greater Gunnison has several of just such little patches of ground. Notwithstanding the warm weather quite a number pf land inveeters come this way, and when they catch a glimpse of the valley, they nearly all gel. a deed to a piece of real estate before be-fore they go away. The boy and hia motor cycle have past into history, and will now live in memory only. The lighthing svrsak of a blue shirt puffed with wind, hat well down on eyebrows, and the warning warn-ing rattle of the cycle engine will no longer be speeding through the streets of Greater Gunnison. Gone to Necia, Iowa. i Economy is a fine art, but it takes a professional to exhidit its full glory. But few of us couid feed a family of five on 40 cent's pr day ; yet it has been done in Gunnison. Some men I know of will travel all the way to' Iowa o save 10 cents on a hair cut. S6me people aro so afflicted with parsimony that they cannot be honest. Character and individuality are largely th'e result of invironment. The sturdy men and women of this valley are just the sort necessary to develop a new eou'ntry, and cause the desert to become fruitful fields. The pioneers of Utah are exa-mples of what it takes to subdue wild nature. All honor to' the brave and sterling men and women who' have made Utah a garden. Greater Gunnison has the edge on most of the other communities in southern Utah, on the question ot water for irrigation. In most places in Utah the prior appropriators have the first right, and they usually become be-come water hogs; but in Gunnison valley, under the sjBteni of the incorporation incor-poration of companies and canals, all are ou an equality, and all get sufficient suffi-cient water to mature their crops. Then again, with the abundant supply and storage capacity of this valley, there need never be any fear of a burn up, The fact is Gunnison valley has ''water to burn." The success and progress of any community is measured largely by the spirit of , unity existing therein. Where all the people unite and pull together in a public spirited manner great results are achieved and such a community 19 sure to prosper Wealth, politics or creeds should not alienate one of us from the other in striviog to build up and improve our city. This a great valley, aud in it is a wonderful people, who by harmonious harmoni-ous effort will- in time develop a marveious spot. Were the Queen of Sheba to visit us no doubt she would say, ''the half has never been told." We are all here to live and die together, to-gether, to mingle and do busineas together to-gether ; then let us take each other by the hand and hang together as one band of citizens with an enthusiastic enthus-iastic spirit to grow onward and upward, |
