Show WENT OVER PRECIPICE. One Boy Killed, Another Injured, While Mountain Climbing. Los Angeles. John Freitas, aged 17, was killed, and Joseph Schultz., aged 19, was injured In a wild run down the side of Mount Wilson on Sunday. The two young men, with a third companion, had ascended the mountain early in the morning from Los Angeles, and were warming cof fee near an ice slide to the north ob servatory, when Freitas slipped Id the snow and plunged over the edge of the gorge. He slid for some dis tance and then struck a rock and bounded some distance, striking his head on another rock. His body rolled 600 feet down the side of the mountain moun-tain and lodged in a mass of rock Schultz and his companion ran along the edge of the precipice, looking for a place to descend. Schultz started down, but slipped and rolled 300 feet, finally lodging in a tree. The third member of the party went for help, and Schultz was rescued from his perilous position. Freita's body was found, but it was impossible to get it to the top of the mountain, and It had to be taken down and out of Gabriel's canyon into Pasadena. His neck was broken. Schultz was badly injured. |
