Show THE FARMER AND BEETS Here is an illustration of what the beet sugar industry means to the world and how deeply the farmer is j interested in its successful develop ment. In addition to the figures shown by the Great Western, there is the Ameri- v can Beet Sugar, the Utah-Idaho, the Amalgamated, tho Holly and several other companies, all with probably the same proportionate Increase. , Tho total which will bo paid farmers for sugar beets in the states of Colorado, Colo-rado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, California, Cali-fornia, Washington, and Nebraska will undoubtedly run well over $100,000,000. I . Tho total acreage of beets contract ed for by tho Great Western Sugar company in Colorado alone now amounts to about 170,000 acres. Tho two conspicuous thoughts brought out by theso figures is the large cash revenue to the agricultural territory of northeastern Colorado, tho . genoral industrial impetus inspired thereby in contrast to the apathy in tho general industrial activity of our country at the present time . The revenue rev-enue from 170,000 acres of beets averaging av-eraging twelve tons, will amount to $20,400,000. This is quite a contrast to tho harvested acreage of 9G,000 acres in this same territory last year. This additional acreage will require thousands of extra laborers. This in turn means increased business for many other lines of industry. The beet sugar industry is helping solve employment problem for returning soldiers sol-diers as out of tho 370 men enlisted from the Great Western company, 130 have been honorably discharged and all are back on the job and the proportion propor-tion holds with other companies. |
