H It was expected that April first would see the H announcements out, but it is evident now that H they will not be forthcoming for several weeks H at least. The dealers admit that there has been H talk for several months of a rise this fall, and it H is looked for now on or about May tenth. H News from the east during the week carried H the announcement that the contest board of the H A. A. A. has decided that the Glidden Recipro- H city tour will start on June 19th from Washing- H ton and is to finish at Ottawa, Canada, on June H 26th. "-A feature of the run this year will be a H day devoted to a hill climbing contest, the per- H formances of the cars to be a factor in del'erm- ining the final awards. The approximate dis-H dis-H tance of the tour is 1090 miles. B H The big red Pope Hartford Hummer whizzed H to victory in a three hundred mile automobile H race at Pablo Beach during the Jacksonville meet H last week, capturing the thousand dollar cash Hi prize and breaking the world's records. Louis H Disbrow of New York was at the wheel of the ft red streak and his great drive lowered the fifty H and two hundred mile records, held respective- m ly by Fletcher and the late Tobin de Hymel, and B established new records for the two hundred and H fifty and three hundred mile events. His aver- H age for the three hundred miles was 77.08 miles i an hour. Charley Merz driving a National was ' second. I; The Jacksonville races have attracted a lot HK of attention because of the fast time made by m practically all of the cars entered, and in the M three hundred mile race the driving was consid- K ered phenomenal. M Bob Burman, the famous driver who has pil- M oted so many popular cars to victory, was the H favorite before the race commenced in his B Prince Henry Benz His mechanics were late in M filling up his gasoline tank, however, and he K could not get to the tape in time to start. Louis M: Strange, another noted driver, piloted the Case H' car and protested a decision which did not give M him third place. |
