Show ALL RIGHT BUT YET ALL WRONG (Continued from uige 2) for what is the intention of the visit? It is me-e-ly a fence-repairing journey on the President's part, and however honest his intentions or however how-ever high his purposes, at the bottom the thought is to so fix things as to insure re-nomination next year. And this ought not to be possible. No President should immediately succeed himself in office. If this was the law, his thought would be to make the best possible record while Pres-ident Pres-ident and not be distracted by the hopes and fears of another nomination and campaign. The present rule will unconsciously sway the judgment judg-ment of the President for a year to come. |
