Show HOBO ROUGHLY TREATED sheriff john H zundel and dep deputy uty charles cheal went to tremonton Tre monton the later part of 0 last week on request ot of marshal dalley dailey to investigate a case which occurred at salt creek west ot of tremon tremonton Tre monton ton ay night according to the report ot of the officers joe miller age 24 of 0 california was hobo ing through the country on his hia way to oregon he went to a ranch house at salt creek that evening and obtained permission to sleep in a shack tilled filled with straw there were a number ot of hay stacks in close proximity the people were a little suspicious and a young man was sent out to keep an eye on miller miller had worked at ogden several days before assists assisting na a afian man in putting on a metal root roof he had cut his hand and was carrying a bottle of iodine to treat the sore just before retiring he dropped the bottle ot of iodine so struck a match to find it the young man watching him supposed he be was going to set the stacks slacks on tire fire and entering the barn asked him what he was doing before the man could explain the young fellow it Is said picked up a piece of board and struck miller a severe blow on the side of the head bead and lace face miller immediately left the place and went back to tremonton Tre monton where he reported the affair to marshal dalley dailey he also claimed that several shots were fired when he was a short distance from the place but he ivas was not sure they were aimed at him the next day miller left for oregon following the railroad by way ot of pocatello he felt he was partly to blame by striking the match near the haystacks so did not swear to a complaint against the young man who struck him |
