Show STATE omidi MEET II 11 alj n u li hj association officers elected E M tyson being named As president discussion ot of various school problems and election ot of officers were features ot of fridays sessions of 0 the annual meeting ot of the state school board association at the capitol at salt lake city E M tyson a member ot of the board ot of education ot of the box eldr elder school district was elected president to succeed dr joseph hughes ot of the board ot of education ot of the nebo district james garrett ot of the board ot of education of 0 the juab school district aras was elected first vice president william mcclurg a member of the emery county district board was chosen second vice president and W W wilson of the board ot of education of the jordan district third vice president preside nL david tarbet of logan was re renamed as clerk the association favored the physical examination ot of all teachers prior to employment provided the examination is made by registered practicing physicians copies ot of the report of the committee on the transportation ot or school children will be submitted to the various boards ot of education for suggestions gest ions it was decided and afterward will be disseminated contract form adopted A proposed teachers contract submitted by a special committee was adopted as a tentative working basis the report suggested salaries tor for beginning teachers the proposed schedules are based on the college training of the applicants they follow two years normal school a year three years normal chool 1000 tour four years normal school 1150 five years normal school 1300 was made that teachers be given a minimum increase of 50 annually the present method of teacher certification was approved in general and it was agreed that boards ot of education should improve the quality of teachers by increasing requirements As soon as possible it was agreed no teacher will be accepted who has had less than two years ct college work the association iotch a favor ot of changing the kindergarten law so as to give boards ot of education authority to decide whether kindergartens shall be established the matter was referred to the legislative committee which will draw up a proposed bill tor for introduction in the legislature the present kindergarten law which provides that all districts having population shall establish kinder bartens gar tens Is obsolete it was pointed out the law was passed when there were only a few such districts but with the consideration ot of school districts in 1915 virtually all of them have at least population association members dic declared lared |
