Show TRUCK MAKING LONG TRIP. The Packard Motor Car company of Detroit, is conducting one of the most strenuous tests ever undertaken by an automobile manufacturing concern. con-cern. A three-ton Packard truck is being driven overland over-land entirely under its own power from New York to San Francisco. The truck arrived in Salt Lake Wednesday afternoon coming dawn through - Parley's canyon from Coalville. L. J. Gilmer, general manager of the Utah Motor Car company, handling Packards here, went up the canyon and met the party, piloting them Into town. The truck has been out of New York four weeks and left Thursday afternoon to continue its trip to San Francisco. Three factory experts are aboard and the results of the exhaustive test are expected to be of great benefit to the Packard people in the future construction of their trucks. The truck is equipped with everything necessary to enable the crew to make camp wherever night catches them and the complete weight is about twelve thousand thou-sand five hundred pounds; pretty nearly the regular regu-lar capacity of the Packard three-ton trucks. |
