| Show DRUGGISTS OF STATE avri U VIM N E mr and sirs ira wynn L eddy and daughter alice ot of the eddy drug store sir and mrs wight of 0 the peoples drug store and mr and mrs J S forrester of the brigham city pharmacy of this city were in attendance at the utah pharmaceutical convention ven tion held at the hermitage in ogden canyon wednesday and thursday two business sessions a dinner and a dance were held wednesday and the attendance was the largest in the history of 0 the association attacks upon methods ot of manufacturers in discriminating against independent druggists in favor of chain stores were made this afternoon in the reports of the trades interest committee and in further discussions upon the address why cut prices by harry coombs of salt lake in report of the trades interest committee wynn L eddy of Drig brigham harn city its chairman called upon the retail druggists in the country to insist that the manufacturers price be commensurate with the goods purchased ile he said that large chain stores are able to buy the same goods at a lower price than the druggist pays and that these chain stores in some instances can dictate the price to the manufacturer and undersell the drug stores in his talk mr coombs incorporated some of the sentiments voiced by mr eddy and tactics of large manlutac jurers in in giving discounts and making liberal allowances tor for advertising to large chain stores were censured A discussion followed mr coombs paper in which the sentiment was generally expressed against the manufacturers methods in favoring large chain stores and dealers movement was launched by the convention upon the suggestion of prof H L thompson head of the pharmacy department at the university of utah for a statewide state wide canvas among druggists to find out what they know and how much they ought to know about pharmacy and the drug business this is in order to raise the standards ot of pharmacy it was and the information thus obtained will be used by universities and pharmaceutical institutions in revising courses of 0 study the movement is nationwide nation wide it was said and Is now being started in utah dr adam S bennion superintendent of 0 the L D S church schools gave a strong address to the convention in which he commended and urged druggists to work tor for higher things and for the public health in general fred G geue manager of the owl drug company of 0 salt lake gave a detailed address on stock control keeping and arrangement he went into every department of 0 a drug store and advocated a number of departures from what he termed old methods in his presidents address eugene L wade head of the association recommended om oni mended changes in the constitution and bylaws by laws ot of the association to bring them up to date the committees appointed at the morning session were as follows corn com cittee on presidents address wynn L eddy brigham city chairman frank L ulrich morgan joy H johnson and fred A geue salt lake A D sutton provo and R E day nominating committee H H peterson richfield chairman E eugene carr ogden P B 13 van ordan lewiston C E chestnut logan harry coombs salt lake and C L pinder parowan carowan Pa rowan at the closing banquet last night miss alice eddy of this city answered to the toast why a druggist and received a real ovation the guests ar rising to their feet in prolonged ged applause |
