Show The Tribune worked the deal with tho Mayor with a great show of adroitness. For several weeks that great organ of sincerity lauded the Republican councilmen for turning down th Mayor's appointments. That was while the deal to oust the antl-Kearns Republicans from office was pending. As soon as the two councilmen had been fixed and a slate agreed upon, the Tribune Trib-une unfolded the following toothsome tidbit a a signal that it had secured what It desired an! would change Its front: "Probably the best thing to do Is to yield something to importunate greed, taking pains a far as possible to protect the city's interesli against disrepute and dishonesty in the make-up of the official roll." That appeared on Wednesday morning ail on Wednesday night the deed was done. That kind of deceit is of the swashbuckling variety that does not deceive. |
