Show The following thrilling dispatch came to us recently from our Indian correspondent (not Mr. Kipling). We have not yet had time to look up the etimology and literal meaning of "Jehad," but believe from the dispatch that it is something which ought to be stopped by international enactment: enact-ment: ABORTIVE JEHAD ON THE SWAT RIVER. Simla, June 13. The Sartor Fakir suddenly appeared at Charbagh, on the Swat River, with GOO men, preaching a Jehad. He failed to persuade per-suade the Jirga to join him or to allow him to cross the Swat. A movable column was ordered to' -mobilise, but the order was cancelled, as the Maturizai Jirga induced the Fakir to return to his home. Reuter. , Angus Nicholson. |
