B & I I It looks as if Mr. G. T. Odell would have some M 1 1 m rather deep ravines to cross in his sprint for the M II i If nomination. In the first place local politicians m km are discussing the fact that the implement man- m Ii ager is a director of the Home Telephone com- M I'ffi I! pany, and that the people interested in that cor- B jl I poration are among the most strenuous of his M ft jlj political adherents. Unfortunately for Mr. Odell, fl I 1 1 the state constitution forbids an officer, attorney M tff jlj or employe of any corporation doing business un- If I r der a municipal franchise from holding office in !. Mr. Odell to smother his mayoralty ambitions, it I is scarcely deemed probable that he will resign as i a director of the Home Telephone company to accept a political office, and even if he did such a j subterfuge would be too palpable to deceive the , intelligent voter. j tf W jt I The supply of new candidates seems to be un- ; dergoing a rapid accretion. The one most extensively exten-sively spoken of at present is Mr. W. F. James, ! who is being urged with much vigor by the work- j ers of the Fifth precinct, where he would come ( ii into direct neighborly conflict with the Odell B i II henchmen. It has been observed that one of the B 1 j senior senator's chief lieutenants in the joint BB1 ' it is. f building, who can be relied upon to reflect the If political genuflections of the Kearns faction, was t II strongly in favor of his candidacy when first au- M M If nounced, but is now equally fervent in his oppo- H if ' i sition which Is taken to mean by the Heavenly B I'l '1 Twins and the independents that Senator T. It is known that H, i Mr. Clinton is a friend of George Sutherland, Bi If1 which would place him in stato inimico with B I the Kearns cohorts. Still the ex-congressman has K' j I r j not yet made an expression of his choice for the K j I I j mayoralty, although it is conceded that he will B I I 1 1 be a strong factor in the convention which will B f lit decide upon Mr. Thompson's successor. They figure thai B 1 there is still time for skilled maneuvering, and if B I!!
