Show The Tribune and Senator Cannon do not appear ap-pear to exactly agre& on the matter of the object of the formation of the new party. In his speech of yesterday, Mr. Cannon said, "All we intend is to make this a non-church party not an anti-church anti-church party." And yet the Tribune is filled every morning with vituperative abuse of the Mormons, coupled with advocacy of the American party movement. It is of course the Tribune's prerogative to conduct an anti-church campaign, but it is slightly nauseating when the old reprobate repro-bate does it under the pretext that the "new party par-ty attacks no man on account of religious belief," and that it was formed solely to combat church influence. If the Tribune and Senator Cannon are to continue to work shoulder to shoulder in the American cause, they should get together and half way harmonize their divergent view of the real objects of the Revenge Society. How does Senator Cannon reconcile his statement state-ment that it Is merely a "non" and not an "anti"-church "anti"-church party and that its formation was solely to fight church influence, with the Tribune editorial of the 10th, in whioh women are advised to go "to the polls in November and file her solemn protest against the tyrant rule over women and against church domination in politics by voting the American Amer-ican ticket." So the American party has at least two arrows to Its bow one for "church Influence" and the other for "tyrant rule over women." It may as well add the other slogan of "Revenge" and then stop all this sham prattle about "Americanism" and "purity in politics." |
