Show AS GRANDPA DAVIS SEES IT. If Judge Parker and his managers, had been honorable and explained the position they held at the convention and had then succeeded in securing his nomination, I think he would have had the loyal support of every Democrat In the United States; but withholding his opinion until after he had received the nomination, and the delegates were tired out and wished to go home and there was no probability that the vote would be reconsidered, recon-sidered, was most dishonorable. The continual use of the phrase "safe and sane" is a direct insult to all Democrats who voted for Mr. Bryan, and will bo so regarded by them on election day. Papers like the Times and others which are interested in the election of Parker print articles from time to time from this Congressman or that poiitloian in various parts of the country, saying the tide is turning rapidly to Mr. Parker, etc. It is nonsense -to make those statements, and If I am any judge of how Bryan Democrats will generally feel, I doubt if Parker will receive within 1,600,000 votes as many votes as Bryan received in either of his campaigns. In other words, I believe Roosevelt Roose-velt will have the largest majority, both popular and electoral, of any president who has ever been elected From a letter to the N. Y. Tribune. |
