Show GSCALMJTG UGVJS By Marlene Haws 826-4859 marlenehcolor-country.net Pat and Bobbi Coughlin were in St. George last week to see their new grandaughter, Adilyn Dawn Coughlin, daughter of, Darren and Tara. The new arrival was born Nov. 21, and weighed in at 7 lbs. This makes one of each gender for the excited excit-ed grandparents. Congratulations Congratu-lations to the Coughlins! Brent, Patrice and Chad Cottam went to Cedar City to see their new grandson (Chad's nephew), and Patrice stayed for most of the week to help out while Shondelle recovers from a C-section. Arnold and Deon Alvey spent a week in Las Vegas with the families of Dave and Raylene Whitefield and Andy and Denise Dube. Wanda Hansen (Arnold's sister) and part of her family (from Layton?) and Robeert Smith, Cedar City, traveled to Las Vegas to spend Thanksgiving with them. In order to dispel the rumors that have been going around... Arnold and Deon did not lose a son recently! They didn't have a son. Del Ray Alvey, West Valley City, passed away Nov. 12, 2004. His parents were the late Arnold and Zella Schow Alvey, who were born and reared in Escalante, but from a different Alvey family. Del Ray was a classmate of Marlene Haws, Dean Shurtz, Jerry Roundy, Wallace and Darlene . Woolsey, Vada Martin, Connie Jepsen, Pratt Gates, Lillian Lyman... to name a few. Del Ray's family moved to Park City before high school graduation gradua-tion and he enlisted in the armed forces at the age of 17, during the Korean War. He was awarded award-ed the Bronze Star. His brother Tommy (Tammy) Alvey still i lives in Escalante and he has two sisters, Velma (Blaine) Durrant of Lehi and Gayle (Earl) Stonehocker of Taylorsville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie. Our condolences to his wife, Donna, and the extended family. Steve Roberts (who owns the "Outfitters") went to Kansas for some rest and relaxation. However, he ended up spending some time in the hospital, a heck of a way to rest or relax! He is back home and doing okay now. But his son will soon be deployed to Bagdad, so that will be a worry for him. Lane and Geraldine Liston went to Cannonville to have Thanksgiving dinner with Dallas and Emilee Clark and sons. Gary, Sandy, Sharla and Kelsey 'Liston came from St. Johns, Ariz, to join in with them. It was Jennifer's and John's turn to spend the holiday with the Navarro family in Hurricane. Brandon Haws came from St. George to spend thanksgiving at the Klyn Haws home. Bringing with him his brother, Alan, and sisters, Devyn and Shaylynn, of Salina. Their parents, Jon and Jillyn Sorensen were in Las Vegas, Nevada for doctor appointments and came to Escalante on Wednesday evening. Leah and Delane Griffin went to St. George to spend Thanksgiving with daughter Brenda and the Val Haws fami- iy- Congratulations to Ashley Carter who was selected to play volleyball at the 1-A All Star tournament in West Valley City on Saturday Nov4 20th. The 1-A team was victorious over th 2-A team. The girls all got to go to a banquet, received plaques, and Ashley was chosen on the Salt (See ESCALANTE on page 3A) i Escalante From Page 2A Lake Tribune All Star Second Team. Ashley's mom, Joy Carter, took her to the games. They dropped grandma, Leah Griffin, off in Spanish Fork to stay overnight with her sister Berniece Losee. Keith and Linda Carter had their entire family here for Thanksgiving dinner. (With the exception of one family. In-laws turn!) Stanley and Marlene Stowe went to Panguitch to eat turkey dinner with son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Cristy .Stowe and kids. Ray and Lois Barney went to Kaysville to spend the holiday weekend With the families of Steve Barney and Mike Herrion. Freland and Phyllis Alvey were in Tooele with Clyde and Terrie Christensen for a week or so. Pratt and Areola Gates and Margo Smith spent Thanksgiving with the family of Russell and Carol -Sorensen in St. George. Doyle and Thelma Cottam had a large group of family members at their house, but a few of the grandchildren are getting get-ting scattered on them. A sad note to put a damper on everyone's holiday was the tragic trag-ic accident that took the life of Terrel Chynoweth, son of Link and Donna Chynoweth. Our sincere sympathy and condolences condo-lences to them and their whole extended family. |
