Show Emergency Preparedness Public Meeting Set TROPIC The Tropic Volunteer Fire Department will be the sponsoring agency for a public meeting to held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the Tropic Fire Station, to organize a Local Emergency Planning & Preparedness Committee (LEPC) for Garfield County. Anyone interested in helping Garfield County become better prepared to respond to and recover from emergencies and disasters of all types should attend. This includes representatives represen-tatives of the public sector (governmental) (gov-ernmental) agencies, volunteer organizations, private sector, business and industry and all local residents. The purpose of the Garfield County Local Emergency Panning and Preparedness Committee (LEPC) will be to ' encourage the completion and on-going revision of an effective, effec-tive, County-wide Emergency Response Plan, with emphasis upon reducing the vulnerability of county citizens and property to harm from the production, use and transportation of haz ardous materials, acts of terrorism terror-ism including those involving weapons of mass destruction, floods, earthquakes, prolonged power-outages, severe winter storms and other potentially (See MEETING on page 3-A) MEETING From Front Page serious threats from both natural and technological hazards. This will be an organizational meeting, at which initial by-laws will be adopted, a chairperson, co-chairperson, secretary and other officers may be selected, Charter members will be enrolled, and an application to the state of Utah for funding from the Department of Transportation will be signed. This organization is being formed, authorized and encouraged encour-aged pursuant to the Congress of the United States (Title 42, Chapter 116, Subchapter 1, Section 11001-c), the Federal Department of Transportation and the State of Utah, State Emergency Response Commission, Utah Department of Public Safety, Division of Comprehensive Emergency Management and the Utah State Homeland Security Task Force. |
