EMTs from across Garfield County, as well as Piute and Sevier Counties, spent 60 hours in training for the Intermediate status. Garkane Voters Create 9th Director District Members of Garkane Power Association As-sociation voted overwhelmingly in favor of creating a 9th director district dis-trict and reelected two incumbents and selected one newcomer to join the cooperative's Board of Directors during Annual Meeting Sessions held in Kanab on Apr. 25 and in Loa Apr. 26. Members in all current districts voted in favor of the bylaw amendment amend-ment which created a 9th district and more equally distributes member mem-ber representation. It will also serve to prevent ties when addressing address-ing issues for board decisions. In District 1, (LaDon Torger- sen, Koosharem) 68 for, 36 against; in District 2, (George Blackburn, Fremont) 106 for, 43 against; District Dis-trict 3, (Michael Blackburn, Bick-nell), Bick-nell), 82 for, 32 against; District 4, (Marjie Lee Spencer, Esca-lante), Esca-lante), 128 for, 19 against; District 5, (Terry Griffiths, Orderville), 134 for, 10 against; District 6, (Hugh Wilson, Hatch), 155 for, 28 against; District 7, (Nolan Button, Kanab), 254 for, 71 against; and District 8, (Niel Biggs, Duck Creek), 226 for 49 against. There was a total of 1,441 votes, with 1,153 saying yes and 288 saying no to the new director district. Incumbents George Blackburn, Fremont and Terry Griffiths, Orderville Or-derville were unopposed in the election elec-tion and will continue to serve as board members from District 2 and 5, respectively. The District 7 election saw Randy Brown, Kanab, secure a place on the Board by defeating Donn Pillmore and Trevor Stewart in a three-way race. Brown assumes as-sumes the position vacated by Nolan No-lan Button, who was unable to seek reelection due to residency requirements. require-ments. As required by the cooperative's bylaws, Garkane Board members will ' elect officers and representatives representa-tives to Deseret G&T (Garkane's wholesale power supplier) and the Utah Rural Electric Statewide organization or-ganization at the first regular Board meeting following the annual meeting meet-ing sessions.
