Show Weatherize To Save Energy And Money With winter approaching, Utah residents are encouraged to make their homes more resistant to the season's weather to reduce the use and cost of energy ener-gy to heat their houses. Gov. Mike Leavitt has declared Oct. 30 "Utah Weatherization Day" to urge Utahns to inspect their homes and take steps to insulate them adequately from the outside air, not only during the winter but throughout the year. For residents unable to afford the cost of inspections, repairs, and the installation of measures to protect their homes from the weather, the state's Weatherization Assistance Program can help. The Weatherization Assistance Assis-tance Program is a U.S. Department of Energy program administered in Utah by the state's Division of Community Development. It helps low-income, low-income, elderly, and disabled people implement energy-conservation measures in their homes to reduce utility expenses and to make their homes more comfortable. They include audits to determine where cold or warm outside air is infiltrating infiltrat-ing a home and the installation of weatherstripping, caulking, or new doors and windows that can more effectively, seal a home from the elements. The Weatherization Assistance Program also offers furnace tune-ups and repairs; insulation of attics, walls, floors, and exposed heating ducts; and energy-efficient lighting and refrigerators.
