Show How Can You Doubt? In the spring of 1975 I acquired a small pamphlet entitled enti-tled "The Coming Crisis and How To Meet It." I know the exact date that the article came into my possession, because I still have the envelope that it was mailed in with the date on it. I had read it several times but it did not catch my eye other than it was an interesting piece of information. This time when I read it, it captured my attention, because of the Twin Towers being destroyed. The article was reprinted from the Millennial Star, a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints publication. The article was a portion of the Journal of Discourses of Brigham Young. The date at the bottom of the article is July 15, 1860, that was 141 years ago. Read and think. "Do you think there is calamity abroad now among the people? Not much. All we have yet heard and all we have experienced expe-rienced is scarcely a preface to the sermon that is going to be preached. When the testimony of the Elders ceases to be given, and the Lord says to them, "Come home: I will now preach my own sermons to the nations of the earth, " all you know can scarcely be called a preface to the sermon that will be preached with fire and sword, tempests, earthquakes, hail, rain, thunders thun-ders and lightning's, and fearful destruction. What matters the destruction of a few railway cars? You will hear of magnificent cities, now idolized by the people, sinking in the earth, entombirig the inhabitants. The sea will heave itself beyond its bounds, engulfing engulf-ing mighty cities. Famine will spread over the nations, and nation will rise up against nation, kingdom against kingdom, king-dom, and states against states, in our own country and in foreign for-eign lands; and they will destroy each other, caring not for the blood and lives of their neighbors, neigh-bors, of their families, or their own lives. They will be like the Jaredites who preceded the Nephites upon this continent, and will destroy each other to the last man, through the anger that the Devil will place in their hearts, because they have rejected the words of life and are given over to Satan to do whatever he lis-testh lis-testh to do with them. You may think that the little you now hear is grievous; yet the faithful of God's people will see days that will cause them to close their eyes because of the sorrow that will come upon the wicked nations. The hearts of the faithful faith-ful will be filled with pain and anguish for them. Brigham Young. (J. ofD. 8:123; July 15, 1860). " Now, after reading this very closely, can one doubt that Brigham Young was a Prophet of God? LaMar Jolley Panguitch |
