Show S.R. 20: UDOT Advises Alternate Routes To Powell, Bryce PANGUITCH The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) advises motorists to avoid State Route 20 between Interstate 15 and U.S. Highway 89 and to choose an alternate route to Lake Powell and other southern Utah destinations this coming season. Suggested alternate routes between 1-15 and U.S." 89 include: (Southbound) U.S. 50 and 1-70, and (Northbound) State Routes 59, 9, 14, and 143. Construction on S.R. 20 will continue through November with a chip-seal coat to be applied in the spring of 2004. Night closures (7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday) will allow contractors to complete the project in one construction season instead of two. Motorists should also expect delays of up to 30 minutes during dur-ing the day. The $13 million project will widen S.R. 20 from 25 feet to 32 feet, fence the UDOT right-of-way, install cattle underpasses, straighten curves, improve grades, and provide passing lanes in three locations. The project is funded under the Centennial Highway Endowment Fund that was created cre-ated by the Utah State Legislature in 1997. Ames Construction, Inc. has established a public inquiry telephone tele-phone . line and answering machine at 435-616-2500. UDOT encourages motorists . to use caution and travel at the posted speed limits while driving driv-ing through construction zones. Work schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather, weath-er, equipment problems or emergency emer-gency situations. |
