Show usmnms nsvjs By Marlene Haws 826-4859 marlenehcolor-country.net Well, I guess you could call me the roving reporter. I've been roving so much this past week I haven't gathered much news. So I'll just tell you what I know! Helen Shurtz had a visit from her daughter and grandson, Sarah and Adam Cowles, Casper, Wyo. They also spent a lot of time with Sarah's sister, Susan Shurtz. Sarah's son, Jonathan, is with the troops in Iraq. He says they have had real hot days and cold nights and that the Iraqi people were very friendly and acted most appreciative appre-ciative to the troops for "what they are doing. Sarah's daughter daugh-ter Rachel was at home recovering recover-ing from a snow boarding accident. acci-dent. She was pretty bruised and battered with broken ribs, etc., But can't wait to get back on and try it again! Oh! To be young again! Curtis and Marsha Koyle have moved into 'their new house out in the "Proctor" area. That places them in the LDS Second Ward instead of the First, so that will be another change for them. Lane Liston is home from the hospital. Taking it easy and trying try-ing to obey instructions from Geraldine. A pretty tall order for most men, right? A group of senior citizens - attended the annual- public forum meeting in Panguitch last week. The group included Deon Alvey, Velma Boulter, Golda Cottam, Jeannie Davis, Darlene Edmiston, Julie Ford and Beth' Woolsey. LoReta Spencer enjoyed a visit from her son Don Spencer and his daughter Amanda, Greeley, Colo. Billy and Dixie Spencer came from St. George to spend the Easter weekend with her. Eva Dean Liston is home for a dew days from the north. Her ; grandson Devyn Blakey brought ' her from Springville. Devyn is a son of Steve and Beth Blakey. Another son Brett Blakey has been in the Tulsa, Okla. LDS mission for six months now and is enjoying it very much. He says it is a big area. Greg Vidrine and son Nathan came from Mountain Green to spend the weekend with Clorene Vidrine. Nathan wanted to share the news with his grandmother grand-mother that he has been called to serve in the Macon, Ga., LDS Mission, the same one she served in not too long ago. We were sorry to hear of the passing of Dennis (Bird, as we all knew him) Richards. Our condolences to his family and friends. Laura Sorensen was taken to Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch by ambulance. Her mom Jeannie Davis has her three boys. Jimmy and Ethel Taylor and children Savannah and Hayden met at the home of Mae Vonn Taylor for the weekend. Jimmy is still working in Las Vegas, Nev., and Ethel and the kids live in the Salt Lake City area. Klyn and I were kept busy by our Sorensen and Cottam families last weekend. We were all in Salina for Alan Sorensen 's play on Friday night; Chad Cottam participated in the track meet in Gunnison Saturday morning. Devyn and Shaylynn Sorensen sang in a program in Centerfield at four in the afternoon after-noon and we had a dinner party for Jillyn Sorensen Saturday evening. It had been a long time since this grandma had been to a track meet. So I got another taste of sunburn and windburn. But I thought it was really exciting to see all the Escalante athletes participating, some of them going on to state competition. It was also good to see former Escalante students who are now the adults and playing the coaching rolls. We visited with Stuart (son of McKay) and Karma Bailey, Fillmore; and watched their son and daughter compete. Saw Brian and Sue Lynn Griffin. Brian is coaching in Richfield. When his kids were running, I kept wondering if he ever gets out and shows them how it's done! I hear he still runs a lot. Jerry and Sherree Roundy were in Salt Lake City for LDS General Conference and brought Nelda Spencer back with them again. Her grandson (and son of Sherree), Darrell Spencer, will bring his family for the Easter weekend then take her back home with them. The Sons of the Utah Pioneers had their monthly dinner din-ner meeting at the Senior Citizen Center on Thursday night of last week. Lewis and (See ESCALANTE on pg. 4) Escalante News From Page 3 A Jean Griffin are here from Provo again and joined with them for the evening. The entire family of Marlin and Jaimie Schow have been in the hospital in Panguitch with pneumonia. The Schows have four children. They are starting to come home a few at a time. This unpredictable weather doesn't help matters when it comes to the sick and afflicted. Especially the young and the older people. |
