Show Vicki Syrett 679-8687 vickiscinternet.net The Olympics have been so fun to watch. We all worried about them coming to Utah, but . as it turns out, they have been very enjoyable and now they are over and it is like saying goodby to a friend. My niece, Holly Erikson, of South Weber, was a skater in the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. She was one of the skaters holding the big beautiful white animals. She was so excited and got to meet everyone, every-one, even Sting, who almost knocked her over in his hurry to get on stage. Holly will also be skating in the Paralympics in March. She is 18 and a senior at Layton High School. From last week... Josh Cox and Brannon Morse are busy getting ready for their LDS missions. mis-sions. Brannon's farewell was Feb. 24 and Josh's will be on Mar. 24. Dixie Shakespear and her nephew from Salt Lake City, Richard Hansen, spent some time going over to Salt Gulch and then to a birthday party at Bob and Sioux Cochran's home in Boulder. Sharon LeFevre Poos, Dixie's niece, was the happy birthday girl. There were 24 people in attendance and everyone had a lovely dinner and a good evening visiting with each other. Now this week ... The second meeting of the "Beginning Quilters" was held on Friday, Feb. 22. We worked on making shamrock wall hangings. Some of the ladies who were sure they couldn't quilt, were so excited to see their work progress. Now, the true test comes, finishing finish-ing the project on our own. These same patterns can be turned into quilts. Right now ' - - the hangings seem wonderful to those of us who are just starting. If you are interested, contact . Kay Shakespear or Bonnie ; Miles. Gloria Hayden has had a very busy month. It began when she ; ; ; - went to see her sister, Carilyn Davies in St. George. Carilyn helped Gloria celebrate her birthday by giving her a party. Gloria was glad to be able to see ; -; ; two grandchildren that she'd - ' never seen before, a little boy '-'- two-years-plus and a little girl, not yet one. Carilyn's husband said that Gloria could borrow her for one week so they could go visiting friends and family in Nevada. They stopped first in ' Hawthorne, Nev., to see Gloria's son, Ted Palmer and his wife, Louise, then on to Fallon, Nev., to visit Gloria's daughter-in-law and her family and a friend Delia McArthur who had moved there from California. In Reno, Nev., they stayed with Lona Penrod. They also attended a birthday birth-day party for a another friend, Florence Canonic, who turned 100 years old on Feb. 28. The Deseret News' LDS Church News carried a small article about about Florence turning 100 years old. With the week running out, they headed back to St. George where Gloria stayed overnight and then returned home to Tropic. When she got home, she became very ill and still isn't feeling much better. On Saturday, Feb. 23, Arthur Syrett and his son Mike went to a game at Southern Utah University where SUU played against Oral Roberts University. They had a nice time visiting and enjoying the game which was won by SUU. Vicki spent time with Stacie Jensen, Cambry and Makay, Mike's family, where she was very happy to be. As I have said before, grandchildren are among those very happy times in our lives. Congratulations to our Sophomore team for taking second sec-ond place in their tournament. We are very proud of them. Great job boys. Weddings are in the air again. Justin Baugh is engaged to Emily Clove. They are getting married Apr. 11. It was good seeing Eva Dean Francisco out to church and to hear she is finally feeling better. She looked very pretty in her blue dress. Sarah Littlefield is in the hospital in Panguitch with pneumonia. Parker Clarke, Jaycee Cox, and Brenna Bybee have graduated gradu-ated from LDS. Primary and are now in the Young Men and Young Women programs. Leslie LeFevre received her "Young Womanhood" award. Brant and Shanna Barton are first-time grandparents to little Carter J. Nielsen. Did someone forget to turn the winter button on? Where is this moisture that we need so badly? I enjoy the warmer weather, but even I know we need water for our summer gardens gar-dens and fields. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to answer my questions or call me with news. It really helps to put the column together. |
