Show Filing Period Opens Today For General Election PANGUITCH - Candidate filing for the 2002 General Election will be held from Thurs., Mar. 7 until Mon., Mar. 18, 2002. One federal oiffiec seat is open, two state positions, eight county offices are open, and two school board positions, are open. The highest federal level office open for filing is U.S. House of Representatives, one Congressman for a two -year term in the Second Congressional District. Also," one slot for the Utah House of Representatives for a two-year term for State Legislature District 73 is open, being vacated by Thomas Hatch who has announced his candidacy candida-cy for State Senate District 28. District 73 consists of Garfield, Kane, Piute, Beaver, and parts of Wayne, Sevier, Iron and Washington counties. The Utah State School Board has one opening for a four-year term from District 14 which includes Carbon, Daggett, Grand, Kane, Piute, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, Uintah and Wayne counties. In local school board elections elec-tions there is one four-year vacancy for each of the following follow-ing areas: The District 4 position, currently cur-rently held by Trish Thmpson and consisting of Cannonville, Henrieville and Tropic is open, along with District 5 held by Dell LeFevere and encompassing encompass-ing Antimony, Boulder, Hatch and Ticaboo. In the Judicial area, there will be a retention election for six judges for the Court of Appeals, to be voted on by voters statewide, provided that the incumbent(s) whose term is expiring files during the filing period. In the Sixth Judicial District a retention election for one judge, Judge will be held, provided that he files during the filing period. The Sixth District includes Sanpete, Sevier, Piute, Wayne, Garfield, and Kane counties. ' In Justice Court, there will be a retention election for the County Justice Court Judge, Judge John Yardley, provided that he files during the filing period. y, On the County level, the following fol-lowing offices will be voted upon: Assessor, a four-year term, currently held by Thomas Simkins; Attorney, a four-year term, currently held by Wallace Lee; ClerkAuditor, a four-year term, currently held by Camille Moore. Also on the County level, two -Commissioners, each for four-year four-year terms, Commission Seat "A"" (Panguitch area), currently held by D. Maloy Dodds and Commission Seat "B" (Bryce Valley area) currently held by Clare Ramsay; Recorder for a four-year term, currently held by Les Barker, Treasurer for a four-year four-year term, currently held by Judy Henrie, and Sheriff for a four-year term, currently held by Than Cooper. |
