Show . i Annual Bryce Canyon Winterfest Gets Underway At Ruby's Inn BRYCE The 16th annual Presidents Day Weekend Bryce Canyon Winter Festival gets underway Friday Feb. 17 and runs through Monday Feb. 19. Something for everyone. Free clinics, demos and tours. Cross country skiing, snowshoeing, archery, photography and more. Ski archery competition (Sunday) and cross country ski races (Monday). REI will conduct ski tours and offer free cross country skate skiing lessons. Cross country ski equipment rentals are available at Ruby's Inn. REI will also do a Dutch Oven cooking demo on Sunday afternoon. The twilight ski tour to the Rim of Bryce Canyon will also be a star-gazing experience. Tubbs Snowshoes will bring demo snowshoes for tours on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The folks at Tubbs will lend a pair of snowshoes to each participant to use on the snowshoe tour. Participants merely sign up for the tour and meet at the designated location. The tours fill up fast, so people should register aa soon as possible. The - number of participants will be determined by how many pairs of snowshoes are available. If they choose to meet in Bryce Canyon National Park, the participants will be responsible for their own entry fee into the park. The tours usually start at one of the park's viewpoint parking areas and go to an overlook in the park. Easton Aluminum and Salt Lake Archery will conduct an archery clinic on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Again, people must sign up for a scheduled time slot. Limited bows and arrows will be available to use during the clinic. Beginners as well as experienced archers will learn hands-on techniques and tips to help them hit the bulls eye (or the target). Sunday, a ski archery competition is planned. See desciption below. Wasatch Touring will send a few small kayaks for folks to try out in the swimming pool. This was a big hit with the kids last year. Again, the clinic is free but people must sign up for a time slot. Wasatch Touring will also show the proper use of avalanche transceivers. They will set up a practice course. A ski waxing clinic is also being planned but the time has not yet been determined. The rangers at Bryce Canyon National Park are planning some interpretive tours. TBA. Sunday evening at 7:30 Gayle Pollock will present a slide show on the Grand Staircase-Escalante Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Monday's Kids Snowboot races are free fun events for the kids. Kids are divided into age groups and for running on snow wearing snowboots. Everyone gets a prize. A- free snow sculpture contest will be held. A photography contest, will be also held. Events are subject to change or cancellation due to weather or other -conditions. |
