Show Escalante To Hold Potato Valley Fest ESCALANTE The Escalante Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring spon-soring a Potato Valley Celebration Saturday, Oct. 14, marking the history of Escalante and the name by which the area was first known, Residents will spiff up the community from 9 a.m. until noon followed at 2 p.m. with a potato cook-off at Heritage Park on Center Street just south of Main. A pot-luck, pot-luck, childrens' games, and a short-program short-program presenting a history of Potato Valley will follow including samples of the native potatoes that inspired the name. The afternoon program will end in time for folks to go home, have dinner, and drive out to the high school to for a special workshop. The Escalante Canyons Group for Art and Humanities has arranged with the Utah Humanities Council Speakers Bureau for Heather Sef-erovich, Sef-erovich, Associate Editor at Brig-ham Brig-ham Young University of the Smith Institute Book Series ( BYU Studies), to do a workshop from 7 .
