Show Tropic News By Louise Ott 679-8776 Helen and Dar Smith took Earl and Rachel Jolley to Heber City for grandson Trevor's mission report. He is the son of Henry and LaVern Jolley. Jeremy Fagergren flew to Venezuela where he served his mission and met his sweetheart. They were married on May 2. Paul Shakespear, and Triessa Ramsay from Bryce Valley and Tyler Owens from Panguitch went to a Youth Advisory Committee for Congressman Chris Cannon on April 25. It was a great experience. Carla Ramsay accompanied them. Sara Littlefield is recovering from a fall and since the weather has been extremely cool for May, it has been a good time to stay under the covers. Dixie Shakespear was in New Castle helping Jeff and Christy Gardner move into their new home. Then she accompanied Danny and Vicki Shakespear to Salt Lake City to see grandson Scott off to Thailand on his LDS mission. Obie and June Shakespear report their sixty-first grandchild. The infant was born to daughter Gwen Perry. (See Tropic News On Page 6-A) Tropic News From Page 2-A Many, from this area attended the Centennial program where the Tabernacle Choir performed. Dixie Shakespear said that she had a good visit with Cora Shakespear Shake-spear the other day. She says Cora was walking a little. Vicki and Arthur Syrett attended the play South Pacific in Cedar City where they visited with son and daughter-in-law Mike and Stacey Jensen. Ida Kennedy said she will not be returning to Bryce Canyon this year. Mary Miller Boyd visited her husband Carl Boyd in Kentucky for a week. Thank goodness for the wind that has been blowing, none of us seem to like it, but it keeps the fruit from freezing, so every thing is for a purpose. Elaine Sawyer brought her mother Lorene Munson home over night. They visited Sara Littlefleld and Elaine cleaned Lorene's yard. Afton Branch from Salt Lake City and brother Kenneth Alvey from Las Vegas, Nev. visited with Royal and Rella Alvey, checking on Royal after his surgery on his face. Royal is doing great and is out planting his garden. Glenna Pollock, along with daughter Hazel Sanders from Fredonia, went to Mark LeFevre's wedding in the Bountiful LDS Temple. Mark is a son of Grant and Darlene LeFevre. Gayle Lynn Pollock's, sister Jeanne Chynoweth and Jacque Slack took the Young Women of the Escalante LDS Stake on an overnight hike. Gayle's wife Marie Pollock and children visited in Orem with Marie's parents Bud and Adella Cottrell. Marie also attended a women's conference with friends from Longmont, Colo. She had a great visit with them. Kay Shakespear. Tracy Syrett and April LeFevre attended the women's conference also. April LeFevre took her mother Hazel Dawn Evans with her as a gift for Mother's Day. She reported that LDS President Gordon B. Hinckley was one of the many speakers and he marveled at the vast amount of women in attendance, Stanley and Louise Ott were in Enoch for granddaughter Emily Edward's birthday party. Emily's parents had invited 13 children and all of them attended: twelve girls and one boy: Rhett Barton, who is a son of former residents Mindy and Jared Barton. Shauna Talbot was there also and brought daughter Jackie to the party. Cheri Feltner was in Cedar City for training as a teller in the new bank. Cheri and Nellie Rae Mecham are going to Circleville for more training each day this week. Cheri said that while there, she visited with her three sons, they took her out to eat and treated her "royally." She took son Tristen to the program where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performed. Tristen was really impressed, as were all other's that attended from the Tropic area. Teresa and Cary Decio have been in Salt Lake City. Gretha Twitchell is home from the care center in Sandy. She will be going to Cedar City for therapy. Barbara Munson stopped in to visit Betty Lou Wintch on her way to Escalante . Malen and Marian Mecham was in Provo over night for Malen to have his annual check-up. Toni and Alfred Foster have had a very busy week. They went to the St. George LDS Temple with daughter Tina, then a week later attended the Manti LDS Temple with Tina and her new husband Craig Brown. They had their reception that night, then had another reception in Richfield the next night. Toni and Alfred then went to Logan where Toni is receiving training in computers. Alfred went for moral support. Vertis and Lester Clark had a busy week end. On Friday, granddaughter Tara, daughter of Richard and Judy Clark was married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They are from Hawaii. On Saturday, they attended the wedding of son Wes and new wife Ellen Pederson. Orlan and Ferriland Ruesch had all of their family home except daughter Peggy Pitts. Here visiting was Gerri Munford from Sandy and her daughter; John and Janice Ruesch from Page, Ariz.; Kim Hansen and children from Yellowstone; and Renon and Rick Bybee. They had a birthday party for all who have birthdays in the month of May. They went out to Kodachrome for an afternoon of fun and visiting. It was another chance for all to be together before Kim and children leave to go home. They are mighty anxious to see their father and husband Chris. Eliza Porter from Iona, Ida. visited her sister Marv Ott. They i attended a party that was held in St. George for Mary, where there were 75 people in attendance. 20 of them were great-grandchildren (three great-grandchildren weren't able to come). After returning home from St. George, Eliza and Mary went to see sister Elsie Goulding in the care center. Steve and Shelly Mecham and family visited the Lowell Mecham's recently. Payton, son of Moyle and Tracey Johnson, was in the hospital in Salt Lake City in March for open heart surgery. He didn't have it as they did another procedure that they have been using for two years. He was iff the hospital for four days. Mother Tracey reports that he is doing super, is gaining weight. He saw a cardiologist for a check up. Shawn Bybee's wife Karen attended the funeral of her great-grandmother. great-grandmother. She was 104. It was held in Salt Lake City. Mary Ann Bybee and Sandra White visited at Clive and Thelma Bybee's. They helped Thelma put on a quilt for her granddaughter Bree Bybee. Helena Mortensen from Parowan visited over night with Eva Dean Francisco. The Garfield County Elementary School held their track meet. It rained in the afternoon and turned a little chilly but we sure appreciate the moisture that we are receiving. David and Kathryn had a new granddaughter born in Cedar City: 9 lbs. 8oz., 22 inches and a lot of red hair. David said they are keeping the road hot between here and Cedar City. Her name will be Kali Jo Pollock. She is a daughter of Trevor and Jolyn. Sara Littlefleld is out and about and looking a lot better. Stanley Ott is out working on "Yellow Creek" getting his tractor primed up to work his land. This has been a life long dream for him to bring back the land as he remembers it from his childhood. |
