Show Tropic's Cub Scout Bear Den troop received an award for their outstanding efforts in cleaning up the Loseeville Cemetery area near Tropic last year from the Colgate-Palmolive company. The boys and their den mothers pulled weeds and picked up debris around the monument for their community service project last year. Tropic Cub Scouts Receive Award For Clean-Up Project TROPIC The Tropic Cub Scout Bear Den received an honorable hon-orable mention award from Colgate-Palmolive Company's "Youth for America" campaign for their community service project proj-ect this year. The scouts, led by den mothers moth-ers Margaret Shakespear and Tracy Syrett, pulled and chopped the weeds around the Loseeville Cemetery Monument, just two miles east of Tropic. They filled two large garbage sacks full of debris and learned the value of working together to accomplish their goal. The judges of the con test felt that the youths set a good citizenship example for the entire nation. The cub scouts involved in the project were Jim Shakespear, Alex Syrett, Callen Barton, Kasey Shakespear, Alex Cox, Pace Pedersen, Wyatt Shakespear Shakes-pear and Hayes Mecham. Tropic resident Dixie Shakespear also helped the scouts by putting poison poi-son around the monument to help kill the weeds. The troop received a certificate certifi-cate from the company for their service. |
