A special ceremony was held to honor scouter Scott Walter. It was a special recognition for scout leaders. Walter is a member of the Owl Patrol, a group of leaders who attended some special training at Snow Canyon. Walter had been elected leader of this patrol. Members of this Owl Patrol were all present for the event including in-cluding Doug Robinson, Provo; Bill Oliphant, Santaquin; Shane Sargent, St. George; Gregory Tobler, St. George; Kent Astle, Scott Walter Orem and Brad Nielson, Pleasant Grove. The Owl Patrol functions as a close-knit, permanent patrol. Walter was awarded wood beads with a tan neckerchief and a leather woggle by his brother, Mark Walter. This Wood Badge 1 was started back in the 1920's by founding scouter Lord Baden Powell of England and is now world wide. This award takes from six months to two years to attain. It has two phases: a week of camping and learning to be a leader and learning to know more about ones self. Every year a new course is offered of-fered to build leadership skills. LDS Stake visitors attending the scouting event were Nick Reynolds and Russell Bulkley from Panguitch. |
