Show Cannonville f Jews By Marva Fletcher 679-8512 Joe and Violet Rae Hughes went to Riverton last weekend to attend funeral services for Rick Beard, who is the husband of their niece Marilyn Mar-ilyn Partner. The funeral was held on Saturday and burial was in the Provo cemetery. He was survived by his widow and five children. Desmond and Gretha Twitchell returned to their winter home in St. George after a two-week vacation while the LDS Temple was being renovated. Gail Fletcher spent the weekend with her parents, Larry and Glenna Fletcher. She is working in St. George. Don and Louise Mangum spent the past week in St. George and in Littlefield, Ariz. They visited their son, Melvin Mangum and family and went to the LDS Temple with grandson Jared and granddaughter Brenda. Jared leaves in March for an LDS mission to Germany, and Brenda is planning to work in the temple. Bonnie Willis went up north to have more surgery performed on her throat. We are all praying for her. Cannonville's Cub Scout Pack 3690 held their annual Pinewood Derby on Jan. 27. After many close races, Jason Hughes took first place. McKay Thompson and Dustin Dus-tin Leslie came in second and third respectively. Thanks to the Thompson family for furnishing the refreshments. The evening was declared a roaring success. The Boy Scouts attended a Winter Win-ter Camp-out at Pine Lake on Feb. 12 and 13. I didn't get many details, de-tails, only heard someone say they had a heater in their tent but they never did get warm. Carol Henderson, American Fork, mother of Sabrina Hughes, her daughter, Spring Greenberg and children, Kyle, Morgan, Katie and Jacob, all of Salt Lake City, visited at the Greg and Sabrina Hughes home this weekend. Clint and Stephanie Brinkerhoff and son of Cedar City spent the weekend with parents, Steve and Verjean Clark. We are all proud of Lloyd Mathews, who took second place in the State Wrestling competition at Cedar City. Britten Twitchell was home from Southern Utah University for the weekend. Speakers in our LDS Sacrament meeting were little McKoye Mecham, Harvey Mecham, and Stan Mecham, all of Tropic. Many friends and relatives were there also. Some of those I saw were Nellie I Rae Mecham, Bart and Peggy Palmer, Pal-mer, Merrilee Mecham, Gloria Hayden, Mark and Barbie LeFevre and two children, and Iris Bushnell, of Henrieville. Rosie Fletcher came and took her parents to Cedar City to see the snow. It was hard to believe they had so much when our ground was bare. Beth Wogan has moved back to her home here from Idaho. She has her son, Ira J. Twitchell and brother LaMar Elmer staying with her. Word was received that Gwen Baldwin Evans had passed away in Washington. She will be buried in Delta. My apologies to the family of Jeffrey Stock. I really thought he was serving in the Marines, but I stand corrected. He's in the Navy. Best of everything, Jeffrey. j |
